Vineyard Story
The Jodar Estate Vineyard was originally planted by Vaughn Jodar in 1985. He added a fully working winery on the property in 1990. A few long term Jodar winery club members still remember visiting him there to taste some of the first wines. The vineyard has been maintained with care by longtime Jodar employee Fausto since 2000. The estate property and winery were purchased by Myka Estates in 2020 and continues to be tended by Fausto along with the Myka Estates team, now producing Jodar Estate wines under the Myka Estates label.
Acreage
Currently about 9 acres of vines are planted on the 40-acre Jodar Estate property which runs along the Mosquito Ridge of the American River Canyon.

Vineyard Climate
The average elevation of the vineyard is 2400 feet. The vineyard is planted on a 40-degree slope, which was dynamited out of rock to create terracing which wraps around a cornice. The vineyard trellising is all bilateral cane pruned in a controlled “California Sprawl” with one fruiting zone. The vineyard climate is typical of the regional American River Canyon microclimate.
The soil at Jodar Estate is all rhyolite rock based, formed from ancient lava flows that once covered the foothills.
